Blog Hiatus : Moving Week!

Hi friends, just wanted to make a little announcement that I will be gone this week from blogging because I'm moving into  my new apartment. WooHoo! With work, the wedding, and now a move I just am finding I'm super limited on time =( But don't worry I will be prepping lots of posts and next week will be super fab! In the meantime, did you see the styled shoot below that I worked on?! I'm in love haha. A HUGE thank you to Samantha from Primary Petals who was the genius behind the amazing florals you see =)

Beach W/out the Beach :: Styled Shoot

You've seen the "beach" wedding before. Bride and Groom casually dressed, perhaps barefoot on the sand overlooking the ocean view. Details are adorned w/ seashells and hues of blues and greens replicating the reflection of broken sea glass. It's the classic Beach Wedding. Probably one of the most "done" themes around that is timeless and never goes out of style. But what about the bride who wants a beach vibe w/out the blues and all the shells, and hey without the beach itself!

That is pretty much the conversation that arose between photog Becca Rillo and myself months ago. Not everyone loves blue. Not everyone has the ability for the picturesque seaside landscape for their nuptials. Becca basically gave me complete freedom for the concept and design as well as the day of styling. And of course - we used vintage rentals from Tasteful Treasures =) We went with purples and soft pinks for the florals and used a dusty teal as an accent with tons of wispy whites, tans, and browns. What do ya think?? Wanna have a funky beach wedding now? =)

Ok, now for the pictures!! (You can see more photos over at Becca's blog HERE) Click to enlarge (as always)

Freebie Friday :: Library Kit

This post is actually part Freebie // part DIY - but of course, I wouldn't have it any other way =) I stumbled across this on Twig and Thistle earlier in the week and just about died. It's about a year old, but I figured if it was way new to me, maybe someone out there in the blogosphere would appreciate it as much as I did. I love books. Like love love. So much so that I planned my entire wedding around them haha (more on that later!) So how cool would it be to create your own Library per se with your own book collection!? I'm always lending books that I like out and borrowing books from friends so this will be perfect in my new place w/ my new bookshelf =)

Materials
Clear Box or Wooden Recipe Box
Colored Cardstock
Color Printer
Craft Knife
Ruler
Bone Folder
Stapler
Mini Pencil

Instructions
Download
Part I of the Personal Library Kit. PDF contains the Checkout Cards, Pockets and Band to wrap around the box. Follow directions within the template on how to cut and construct. The file contains only brown ink so you could really print this onto any color paper that you like. Would look great in black and white too!

Download Part II of the Personal Library Kit. PDF contains the Book Journal, Bookmark and Dividers. Follow directions within the template on how to cut and construct.
Once you have all the pieces constructed, place inside box with coordinating mini pencil and wrap with the band. I purchased the clear box from the Container Store (not available online) but you can also purchase it online through Amazon. Adorn box with bookmark and voilá, you’ve got a sweet little book-lovers gift! Hope you enjoy!

Cover Me Happy

So this past week, I have been listening to a lot of my favorite covers. I even made a mix cd (who does that anymore!?) of all my favorites to listen to in this amazing weather with the windows down. Some music just needs air. It all started when I found this cover of my favorite Stevie Nicks song. So I thought I would share w/ you some of my TOP favs and maybe you can share some of yours! Happy Wednesday!

1) First up is Jayme Dee's cover of Jeff Buckley's cover of the Leonard Cohen Hallelujah. I love this song. Period. And I'm even more in love with Jayme Singing it.

2) Katy Perry's cover of Electric Feel by MGMT. I love Katy. And I love this cover. Enough said.

3) Stacey Dupree's cover of Stevie Nicks' Silverspring which might be one of my all-time favorites.

4) Brooke White's cover of Kings of Leon's Love Somebody - soooo good!

5) And last but not least - Fleet Foxes singing Bob Dylan's It Ain't Me Babe.

Photobucket Fail & Pretty Packages

Well, as you can probably tell already... my blog looks like a hot mess right now. Apparently, photobucket is doing maintenance on their site and there is about 2% of their users who are affected - and I'm one of the 2% - figures. My blog is like my bedroom. I love the colors. All the images make me feel happy. I hate when my room is messy - it stresses me out. Ok - rant over.

This past month I got the opportunity to participate in Danni's from Oh, Hello Friend Collection Trade. I collect so  much random stuff - especially with Tasteful Treasures that I thought this would be sooo super fun to be apart of. Here are just a few images of what I was able to collect for my trading buddy.

She collects old cameras, skeleton keys, and milk glass. I was able to score one of each! For the packaging I was inspired by the colors of the key and the milk glass together so I used all very natural looking colors: white, off white, brown, tan, etc. Instead of tissue paper or anything I wrapped the milk glass in old book pages and added lots of textures to each individual's wrapping. I honestly love wrapping things. Packaging might just be in my top 5 favorite things. ever. Soon I will share with you the lovely package I received - yippee!

I was so honored to be apart of such a talented bunch. Can you spot some treasures??

DIY : Springing for Ruffles

It definitely feels like spring here and I absolutely love it! In light of this fabulous weather I thought I would attempt a fun ruffly DIY project I've been dying to try out. About a month ago I stumbled across this fun blog, PS I Made This. After perusing all the eclectic style boards turned into reality I found a DIY project adding ruffles to one your plain tees you have just sitting around =)

So, I got out my sewing machine and let the ruffle making begin! It actually took me 2 tries to get it right and that is why I thought I would let you know my tricks - or rather suggestions from doing it wrong so that you can do it yourself without any mishaps haha

The images above indicate that you simply cut out the side arm and then the bottom portion of a standard white tee. You then us the bottom portion to ruffle and sew onto the neckline. Now, on my first go around, I found that the side are cut didn't quite work - the limp jersey fabric wouldn't really stay up on that side.

{ R O U N D 2} : Instead of doing the off the shoulder look I decided to just make a more dramatic scoop neck and it worked MUCH better. I still cut off about a 2 inches from the bottom and sewed on my machine a long stitch right in the middle. Then taking the bottom string pulled to create the ruffle. Not too tight, but not too stretched out. Choose which look you like best.
This time I think it turned out much better! Totally wearable and I was still able to spring for ruffles =)
